Welcome to our UW-L Centennial website. We are very excited to be celebrating our 100th year! I am often reminded of our rich history as I walk past the cornerstone of Graff Main Hall which says 1908. One hundred years ago, this institution of higher education was quite different than it is today. It is difficult to imagine the entire school being housed in Graff Main Hall, as it stood alone in the middle of a field. On opening day, just over 150 students were enrolled in La Crosse Normal School. Today, over 9000 students attend classes in 12 academic buildings. We have construction occurring which includes a new sports complex, Centennial Hall, and new residence halls. It truly is an exciting time to be at UW-La Crosse. The campus has also grown academically. Originally known for its nationally recognized physical education program, UW-L now offers 85 undergraduate programs in 30 disciplines, and 21 graduate programs, and much, much more.
We are proud of our rich history at UW-L, and hope you will join us to celebrate our centennial year together. We have scheduled many events throughout the year, culminating with the Centennial Celebration on October 24, 2009 during the Family, Friends, and Alumni weekend. Be sure to register early to guarantee your place to relive history, and to celebrate the future of UW-L. I invite you to visit this page frequently for fun history facts, stories from alumni, faculty, staff and students, images, and more! We look forward to seeing you during this very special year!
Sincerely,
