How To Calculate Your Grade Point Average

Letter grades at UW-L are worth the following points:

A = 4.00,  AB = 3.50,  B = 3.00,  BC = 2.50,  C = 2.00,  D = 1.00,  F = 0.00

To calculate the grade points that you will receive for one class:

Multiply the number of credits attempted by the points assigned to the grade

¡ Example, an "A" in a 3 credit course would earn 12 points (3 credits x 4 points= 12 points)

To calculate a semester grade point average for all classes:

Add the grade points from all classes, then divide the point total by the number of credits attempted during the semester

(Total Points/Credits Attempted = GPA)

¡ Example

Course Description Credits Attempted Grade Points
ENG 110 College Writing 3 B (3.00) 9.0
MTH 150 College Algebra 4 BC (2.50) 10.0
MUS 105 Music Appreciation 2 A (4.00) 8.0
ERS 100 Introduction to Ethnic and Racial Studies 3 AB (3.50) 10.50

37.50 Points/12 credits attempted = 3.125 GPA
