UW-L Drops Second Straight WIAC Game with Loss at UW-Oshkosh

Oshkosh, Wis. – The UW-La Crosse men's basketball team dropped its second straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) contest with a 78-63 loss at UW-Oshkosh Saturday afternoon in the Kolf Sports Center. The Eagles fall to 8-8 overall and 2-5 in the WIAC while the Titans improve to 10-7 overall and 4-4 in the conference. It is UW-Oshkosh's third straight win over UW-L.
The Eagles raced out to a 5-0 lead before the Titans went on a 10-0 run to lead 10-5 with 14:29 left in the first half. UW-L later cut the lead to 17-13 with 9:50 remaining, but UW-Oshkosh scored the next seven points and led 29-22 at halftime.
UW-L cut the margin to 29-24 early in the second half on Tony Mane's layup, but UW-Oshkosh scored the next six points to lead 35-24 with 17:21 left. The Titans led 55-37 with just under 11:00 remaining when the Eagles went on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 55-44 with 9:01 left, but UW-L could get no closer the rest of the game. UW-Oshkosh led by as many as 20 points in the second half.
Mane led UW-L with 29 points, finishing 10-of-20 from the field, including four-of-10 from three-point range. He was five-of-five at the free throw line. Andy Merklein finished with 10 points and six rebounds for the Eagles while Trevor Stratton had eight points. Austin Scott had six points and six rebounds off the bench.
UW-L shot 38.3% from the field, including 26.9% (seven-of-26) from three-point range. The Eagles were 10-of-14 (71.4%) at the line.
D.J. Marsh led UW-Oshkosh with 28 points, 11 rebounds and six assists. He was six-of-eight from the field (two-of-two from three-point range) and 14-of-16 at the line. Dane Seckar Anderson finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds while Matt Miller had 16 points and five assists. Miller hit all 10 of his free throw attempts.
The Titans shot 50.0% from the field, including 53.8% (seven-of-13) from three-point range. UW-Oshkosh was 29-of-33 (87.9%) at the line.
UW-L returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 21 at UW-River Falls at 7 p.m.
