UW-L Falls at Sixth-Ranked UW-Stevens Point

Stevens Point, Wis. – The UW-La Crosse men's basketball team fell 82-69 at sixth-ranked UW-Stevens Point Wednesday night in Quandt Fieldhouse. The Eagles fall to 4-3 overall and 0-1 in the WIAC while the Pointers improve to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

The Eagles took an early 10-7 lead with 15:24 remaining in the first half after a Tony Mane layup. UW-L led 14-13 with 12:16 left when UW-Stevens Point went on a 18-7 run to lead 31-21. The Pointers led 37-29 at halftime.

UW-L started the second half on a 12-6 run to cut the lead to 43-41 with 15:45 left, but UW-Stevens Point scored the next seven points of the contest to lead 50-41. The Eagles cut the lead to five points three times, including 60-55 with 7:46 remaining. Jared Jenkins then hit a jumper for the Pointers for a seven point lead and UW-Stevens Point went on a 14-4 run to lead 76-59.

Mane led UW-L with 22 points, hitting eight-of-20 from the field (three-of-nine from three-point range) and three-of-three free throws. Trevor Stratton finished with 15 points, finishing three-of-seven from three-point range. Andy Merklein had 11 points and game-high seven rebounds.

The Eagles shot 42.4% from the field, including 40.9% (nine-of-22) from three-point range. UW-L was 10-of-11 (90.9%) at the free throw line.

Bryan Beamish led UW-Stevens Point with 18 points and five rebounds while Jenkins and Evan Sweeney each had 17 points points. Jenkins also grabbed five rebounds. The Pointers shot 60.4% from the field, including 43.8% (seven-of-16) from three-point range. The team finished 11-of-13 (84.6%) at the line.

UW-L returns to action Saturday, December 13 at UW-Eau Claire at 3 p.m.
