Kiefer Named to All-America Honorable Mention Team

La Crosse, Wis. - University of Wisconsin-La Crosse senior linebacker Drew Kiefer of Abbotsford (H.S.) has been named to the 2008 D3football.com All-America Honorable Mention Team. It is the first career All-America recognition for Kiefer, who was also named to this year's D3football.com All-West Region First Team.

A 2008 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) First Team selection, Kiefer led the UW-L defense with 90 tackles this year, including a team-best 48 solo.

He also had a team-high 12.0 tackles for loss and 4.5 quarterback sacks. A 2007 All-WIAC Honorable Mention selection, Kiefer led the Eagles in tackles in four games this season, including a career-high 17 at Azusa Pacific (Calif.) September 20. Kiefer finished with a team-leading 12 tackles versus Hardin-Simmons (Texas) September 6, nine at North Dakota September 13 and eight against UW-River Falls November 8.

A co-captain in 2008, Kiefer had 3.0 tackles for loss and 2.0 quarterback sacks versus UW-Platteville October 18 and also had 1.5 sacks versus UW-River Falls and 1.0 at North Dakota.

He ranked second in the WIAC in tackles this year, tied for fourth in tackles for loss and 10th in quarterback sacks. Kiefer is tied for fifth in school history with 277 career tackles, including 136 solo. He finished his career with 21.5 tackles for loss and 9.0 quarterback sacks.

UW-L finished 3-7 overall and 3-4 in the WIAC in 2008.
