Jones and Hallingstad Earn Honors

La Crosse, Wis. - Senior defensive end Derek Jones of Oregon (H.S.) and freshman punter Christian Hallingstad of Cumberland (Rice Lake) earned conference and national honors Wednesday.

Jones has been selected the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Defensive Player of the Week and named to the D3football.com Team of the Week presented by Scoutware. He tied for the team lead with six tackles in UW-L's 28-13 victory at East Texas Baptist University Sept. 5. Jones had a team-high three tackles for loss and tied for the lead with 1.5 quarterback sacks.

He also forced a Tigers' fumble as the Eagles limited East Texas Baptist to 200 yards of total offense, including 80 rushing yards.

Hallingstad was also named to the D3football.com Team of the Week. Playing in his first collegiate game, Hallingstad averaged 37.8 on six punts in the Eagles' win at East Texas Baptist. He had a long punt of 47 yards and had one inside the 20-yard line.

UW-L returns to action Saturday, Sept. 12 hosting Azusa Pacific University (Calif.) at 1 p.m. It will be the Eagles' home opener at the newly constructed Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.
