UW-L Places Seventh at Falcon Invitational

Minneapolis, Minn. - The UW-La Crosse men's swimming & diving team placed seventh at the UW-River Falls Falcon Invitational Saturday at the University of Minnesota's Aquatic Center. The Eagles, who competed in the Invite's White Division, finished with 213 team points. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee took the team title with 891 points while the University of North Dakota was second with 642. Minnesota State University, Mankato placed third (520) followed by the University of Minnesota (413), University of South Dakota (410), Gustavus Adolphus College, Minn. (376), UW-La Crosse, St. Cloud State University, Minn. (75) and UW-Stevens Point (16).
UW-L's Justin Dembski placed sixth in the 1,650 freestyle (17:00.42) while Matt Diehl was seventh in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.45) and 10th in the 200 breaststroke (2:15.97).
The Eagles' Spencer Loch finished 10th in the 50 (21.59) and 100 (47.50) freestyles. Casey Borden recorded a pair of top-13 finishes, placing 11th in the 100 backstroke (55.75) and 13th in the 200 backstroke (2:02.31) while Kurt Zehel was 11th in the 400 I.M. (4:38.94).
Chad Martin was 12th in the 200 breaststroke (2:22.95) and 15th in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.32) while Ben Knutson finished 16th in the 50 freestyle (22.48) and 100 backstroke (1:01.31).
In the 400 I.M., Bill Shuster was 12th (4:41.60) and John Lindholm 13th (4:53.59). UW-L's Trevor Priegnitz finished 14th in the 1,650 freestyle (18:20.17) while Shuster was 15th (18:38.63) and Jared Krueger 16th (18:53.82).
In diving for the Eagles, Casey Chamberlain placed 10th in the 1-meter competition (195.50 points) while finishing 17th in the 3-meter (157.50). Trey Edgerle was 11th in the 3-meter (195.45) and 13th in the 1-meter (170.65) while Ben Madsen was 13th in the 3-meter (177.85) and 16th in the 1-meter (163.45). UW-L's Tanner Classon placed 15th in the 3-meter (176.05) and 18th in the 1-meter (148.15) while Patrick Schulze finished 16th in the 3-meter (172.10) and 17th in the 1-meter (148.15).
UW-L had two relays record top-six finishes. The 200 freestyle relay of Diehl, Knutson, Borden and Loch were fifth (1:26.44) while the 400 freestyle relay of Diehl, Knutson, Colin Schmidt and Loch were sixth (3:14.03). Borden, Martin, Nathanial Hoffman and Knutson were 10th in the 200 medley relay (1:41.19) while Borden, Diehl, Grayson Hoffmann and Loch finished 11th in the 400 medley relay (3:40.96).
UW-L returns to action Saturday, Jan. 17 hosting UW-Eau Claire at 1 p.m.
