Diehl Earns All-America Honors at NCAA III Championships; Sets School Record in Prelims

Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's swimming and diving team is in 45th-place after the third day of competition at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championships at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. The Eagles have 3.0 team points. Kenyon College leads with 482.0 points while Emory University is second with 324.0. Denison University is in third-place (234.5) followed by St. Olaf College (205.0) and Amherst College (117.0) to round out the top-five. A total of 49 teams have scored points.

UW-L's Matt Diehl placed 14th in the 100 breaststroke (56.66) Friday night to earn NCAA III Honorable Mention All-America honors. He set a school record in the preliminaries Friday morning (56.36), recording the 12th-best time overall.

Diehl competed in the 50 freestyle preliminaries Wednesday morning, tying for 27th in the preliminaries (20.86). He will swim in the 100 freestyle Saturday, March 21.

He has now five career NCAA III All-America awards, with the previous four coming in 2007. Diehl was a member of UW-L's seventh-place 200 freestyle relay as well as the 11th-place 400 freestyle relay, 14th-place 400 medley relay and 14th-place 800 freestyle relay in 2007.
