UW-L Defeats UW-Eau Claire in WIAC Dual; Dembski and Diehl Win Two Events

La Crosse, Wis. - The UW-La Crosse men's swimming & diving team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 136-100 dual victory over UW-Eau Claire Saturday night in Mitchell Hall.

The Eagles' Justin Dembski and Matt Diehl each won two events Saturday night. Dembski captured the 1,000 (10:11.77) and 500 (4:56.60) freestyle while Diehl took the 200 I.M. (2:00.06) and 100 freestyle (47.63).

UW-L's Spencer Loch and Casey Borden also won individual events as Loch finished first in the 200 freestyle (1:48.56) and Borden won the 200 backstroke (2:04.08). Loch was also second in the 200 backstroke (2:05.91).

The 400 medley relay of Borden, Chad Martin, Peter Szotkowski and Simon Weisse captured the title (3:44.11) while Grayson Hoffmann, Bill Shuster, Joel Knuesel and Kurt Zehel was third (3:49.21).

Martin had a pair of second-place individual finishes, including the 200 I.M. (2:08.43) and 200 breaststroke (2:22.21). Weisse was second in the 200 freestyle (1:49.57) while Colin Schmidt was third in the 200 (1:50.54) and 500 (5:06.59) freestyle. Zehel was second (2:08.68) and Szotkowski third (2:13.10) in the 200 butterfly.

Other top finishes included Ben Knutson second in the 100 freestyle (49.61), Hoffmann third in the 200 backstroke (2:06.87) and Shuster third in the 200 breaststroke (2:27.01).

Trey Edgerle placed third in the 1-meter (207.30 points) and 3-meter (226.65) diving competition.

UW-L returns to action Friday, Jan. 23 at the Get to the Point Invite at UW-Stevens Point.
