UW-L Wins Dual at UW-Whitewater; Diehl Captures Two Events

Whitewater, Wis. - The UW-La Crosse men's swimming & diving team wrapped up its WIAC dual season with a 147-95 victory at UW-Whitewater Saturday afternoon. The Eagles finish 3-1 in conference duals.

Matthew Diehl captured two individual events Saturday, winning the 50 (21.78) and 100 (48.42) freestyle. The Eagles' Justin Dembski, Casey Borden, Spencer Loch and Trey Edgerle also took individual crowns. Dembski was first in the 200 freestyle (1:47.60), Borden won the 200 I.M. (2:05.26), Loch took the 100 backstroke (55.99) and Edgerle the 3-meter diving competition (222.15 points). Borden was also third in the 100 freestyle (49.39) while Loch finished second in the 200 freestyle (1:48.22).

The Eagles swept the relay events Saturday as Benjamin Knutson, Diehl, Chad Martin and Borden won the 200 medley (1:41.63) and Loch, Joel Knuesel, Jared Krueger and Dembski took the 200 freestyle (1:28.37).

Other top finishes for UW-L included Kurt Zehel placing second in the 200 I.M. (2:07.95) and third in the 500 freestyle (5:04.14) while Peter Szotkowski was second in the 100 butterfly (57.10) and third in the 200 I.M. (2:09.38). Simon Weisse was second in the 500 freestyle (5:02.87) and third in the 200 freestyle (1:51.20).

The Eagles' Casey Chamberlain finished second in the 3-meter diving competition (218.35 points) and third in the 1-meter (190.55).

Colin Schmidt placed second (10:37.43) and Krueger third (10:49.09) in the 1,000 freestyle while Bill Shuster was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.64). UW-L's Knutson finished third in the 50 freestyle (23.14) while Grayson Hoffmann was third in the 100 backstroke (57.06).
