UW-L in Fourth-Place After First Day of NCAA III Championships; Distance Medley Relay Places Second

Terre Haute, Ind. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men’s track and field team is in fourth-place after the first day of competition at the 2009 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The Eagles have 8.0 team points while UW-Oshkosh, UW-Eau Claire and Buena Vista University are tied for first with 10.0 points. St. Lawrence University and McMurry University are also tied for fourth with UW-L.

The Eagles' distance medley relay of Zach Wilhelmy, Paul Yerhot, Ryan Mendez and Dallas Vincent placed second Friday (9:59.30). All four earned their first career All-America award.

In other action Friday, UW-L's Luke Crowley placed ninth in the weight throw (54-10).

In preliminary track action, Wilhelmy failed to qualify for Saturday's final in the mile run (4:15.21). Matt Gordy also failed to advance to the 55-meter dash final (6.45).

Action concludes Saturday in Terre Haute.
