UW-L Second After First Day of WIAC Outdoor Championships; Zdroik and Riley Win Titles

Oshkosh, Wis. - The UW-La Crosse men's track & field team is in second-place after the first day of competition Friday at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Championships at UW-Oshkosh's J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. The Eagles have 50.5 team points while UW-Whitewater leads with 56.5. UW-Stevens Point is in third-place (45.0) followed by UW-Eau Claire (37.0), UW-Platteville (34.0), UW-Stout (25.0), UW-Oshkosh (21.0), UW-River Falls (4.0) and UW-Superior (0.0).

UW-L's Paul Zdroik and Bobby Riley captured individual conference titles Friday as Zdroik took the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:15.01) and Riley the javelin throw (178-1).

The Eagles' Zach Wilhelmy placed third (9:23.75) and Logan O'Grady sixth (9:36.21) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase while Connor Lonning finished fourth in the 10,000-meter run (31:08.36).

In the pole vault, Jeremiah Burish was third (15-6 1/4), Eric Moser fourth (15-0 1/4) and Jason Prochnow tied for fifth (15-0 1/4).

UW-L's 4x800-meter relay finished seventh (8:10.78).

In track preliminaries, Matt Gordy (10.80), David Sikorski (10.85) and Zach Lee (10.87) advanced to Saturday's 100-meter dash final while Gordy (22.28), Lee (22.31), Paul Yerhot (22.57) and Alex Rooker (22.65) advanced to the 200-meter dash final. Yerhot will also run in the 400-meter dash final after Friday's prelims (49.90).

Pat Bryan will ran in Saturday's 110-meter hurdles final (15.42) and Brad Peterson in the 400-meter hurdles final (55.53).
