UW-L Wins 19th Straight WIAC Outdoor Title; Riley Named Field Performer of the Meet

Oshkosh, Wis. - The UW-La Crosse men's track & field team captured its 19th straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Championship Saturday afternoon at UW-Oshkosh's J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. It is the Eagles' 45th conference title in school history.
UW-L finished with 176.5 team points while UW-Stevens Point was second with 157.0 and UW-Whitewater third with 129.5. UW-Oshkosh placed fourth (106.0) followed by UW-Platteville (99.0), UW-Eau Claire (89.0), UW-Stout (61.0), UW-River Falls (38.0) and UW-Superior (2.0).
The Eagles' Bobby Riley was named the Field Performer of the Meet. After winning the javelin throw Friday, Riley took the shot put (57-0 1/4) and discus (171-4) Saturday afternoon.
Paul Zdroik won the 5,000-meter run (15:05.92) Saturday after capturing the 3,000-meter steeplechase Friday night.
Other winners Saturday for UW-L included Paul Yerhot in the 400-meter dash (49.30), Zach Wilhelmy in the 1,500-meter run (3:54.29) and David Stauder in the high jump (6-8 3/4).
The Eagles' Dallas Vincent was second in the 1,500 (3:54.80) and 5,000-meter runs (15:06.86) Saturday while Brian Shonat placed ninth (4:04.42) in the 1,500 and Broc Vike was 10th (15:37.89) in the 5,000. UW-L's 4x400-meter relay finished fifth (3:22.41).
Other top finishes on the track Saturday included Matt Gordy placing second (10.95), Zach Lee third (10.99) and David Sikorski fourth (11.02) in the 100-meter dash while Alex Rooker was third (22.02), Lee fifth (22.13), Yerhot sixth (22.13) and Gordy eighth (22.18) in the 200-meter dash.
Brad Peterson was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles (56.24) and Pat Bryan eighth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.44).
In the field events, Luke Crowley placed fifth in the discus throw (157-1) and ninth in the shot put (46-10 3/4). Andy Novak was seventh in the shot put (47-8 1/2) for the Eagles. Al Chery finished sixth (6-4 3/4) and Nick Stone tied for 10th (6-2 3/4) in the high jump.
