UW-L Hosts NCAA Qualifier; Eagles Win Four Individual Events

La Crosse, Wis. – The UW-La Crosse men’s track & field team hosted an NCAA Qualifying Meet Thursday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium. No team scores were kept in the final collegiate meet held at UW-L. A new stadium will be constructed at the conclusion of the WIAA State Meet scheduled for May 30-31.

UW-L won four individual events Thursday night. On the track, Matt Gordy took the 100-meter dash (10.74) and Alex Rooker the 200-meter dash (21.86). Gordy was second in the 200-meter dash (22.01) while Rooker finished second in the 100-meter dash (10.76). Both runners provisionally qualified for the NCAA III Championships in the 100-meter dash.

In the field events, Jessie Dengsavang captured the triple jump (46-11) while Bobby Riley won the shot put (54-1 1/4). Dengsavang and Riley also provisionally qualified for the national championships with their performances. Riley also qualified in the discus throw with a fourth-place finish (159-8).

UW-L’s 4x400-meter relay won with a provisional time of 3:14.28 while the 4x100-meter relay was second with a provisional time of 41.71.

Other top finishers on the track included Logan O’Grady placing second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:43.10) and Cory Hayden second in the 10,000-meter run (31:30.94). Pat Bryan finished third in the 110-meter hurdles (15.33) and Dylan Randolph third in the 400-meter dash (48.68).

Andrew Boldt was fourth in the 800-meter run (1:52.56), recording a national provisional qualifying time. Sam Nolden finished fifth in the 200-meter dash (22.82) while Kevin Oelstrom was fifth in the 5,000-meter run (14:54.17).

UW-L’s Clark Lundquist was second (6-4 1/4) and Dave Stauder fifth (6-4 1/4) in the high jump. In the long jump, Cole Lambert was second (21-10) while in the shot put, Bill Warren finished fourth with a provisional qualifying mark (52-0 1/2).

Jason Prochnow and Jeremiah Burish tied for second in the pole vault (15-1 3/4) while Joel Nernberger tied for fourth (15-1 3/4).
