Riley Named Midwest Region Field Athlete of the Year

New Orleans, La. – UW-La Crosse senior Bobby Riley of Wittenberg (Wittenberg-Birnamwood) has been selected the 2009 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Midwest Region Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year.

Riley won the discus, javelin, and shot put at the 2009 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Championships May 1-2 at UW-Oshkosh. His 30 points helped earn him the WIAC Field Athlete of the Meet honors and helped UW-La Crosse win its 19th consecutive conference team title.

His best marks of 58-4 3/4 in the shot put and 177-0 in the discus are the top marks all season in NCAA Division III.

The USTFCCCA selects the top track athlete, field athlete, head coach, and assistant coach for the eight regions in NCAA Division III outdoor track & field.

UW-L returns to action Thursday, May 21 at the NCAA III Outdoor Championships at Marietta College (Ohio).
