UW-L Opens Season at UW-Stout Invite; Six Individuals Win Events

Menomonie, Wis. – The UW-La Crosse men's track & field team opened its 2009 season at the UW-Stout Open Saturday afternoon in Menomonie. No team scores were recorded.

The Eagles had six individua winners Saturday. Phill Hernandez took the 5,000-meter run (15:49.80), Jamar Jackson the 55-meter hurdles (7.77), Zach Lee the 200-meter dash (22.81) and Dallas Vincent the 3,000-meter run (8:31.39). UW-L's Jessie Dengsavang won the triple jump (45-10 1/2) while Bill Warren won the shot put (50-4).

Other top finishers on the track included Josh Kaul in the 5,000-meter run (15:51.57) and UW-L's 4x400-meter relay was second (3:28.29). Matt Gordy placed second (6.48) and Lee third (6.52) in the 55-meter dash while Gordy was also second in the 200-meter dash (22.82) and teammate Sam Nolden fifth (23.17). In the 400-meter dash, Cole Lambert placed second (50.61) and Brad Peterson tied for fifth (51.24).

Mitch Wilson was second (4:36.12) and Ben Plankis fifth (4:39.05) in the mile run for the Eagles while Paul Moran placed second (8:46.93) and Connor Lonning third (8:53.96) in the 3,000-meter run.

In the field events, Chad Heemstra was second in the triple jump (42-6 1/4) while Clark Lundquist was third in the long jump (20-11 3/4). David Stauder placed third in the high jump (6-7 1/2) and Lundquist tied for fourth (6-5 1/2).

Jeremiah Burish and Jason Prochnow tied for third in the pole vault (14-10 1/4) for UW-L. The Eagles' Andy Novak finished second in the shot put (48-5 1/2) while Luke Crowley was third (47-5) and Aaron Johnson fifth (46-3 1/4). Crowley also placed fifth in the weight throw (52-7 1/4).

UW-L returns to action Saturday, Jan. 31 at the St. Mary's (Minn.) Invite and Minnesota State, Mankato Open. Action begins at 11 a.m. in both meets.
