UW-L Drops Two of Three Matches at NWCA Duals

Cedar Falls, Iowa – The UW-La Crosse wrestling team, ranked fifth in NCAA Division III, dropped two of three matches Saturday at the National Wrestling Coaches Association/Cliff Keen National Duals at the University of Northern Iowa. The Eagles opened with an 29-15 victory over the University of Dubuque (Iowa) before a 31-7 loss to Coe College (Iowa). UW-L then lost by criteria (19-18) to Heidelberg College (Ohio).
UW-L is now 14-5 on the season.
In individual results from Saturday, the Eagles' Josh Zabel went 3-0 at 184-pounds while Matt Mauseth finished 2-0 at 149. Dan Laurent was 2-1 at 285 with one victory by fall while Bobby Dorn won his only match at 149-pounds by fall.
UW-L's Cory Ferguson (165) and Andy Moore (197) each went 1-1 while Pat Parrillo (133), Alex Dahl (141) and Ryan Farwell (157) all finished 1-2. Dahl earned his victory by fall.
Falling in their only match of the tournament were Jeff Erkel (165), Dan Schulte (174) and Brenden Faust (197). The Eagles' Mike Schmitz finished 0-2 at 174-pounds and Johnny Brennan was 0-3 at 125.
UW-L returns to action Friday, Jan. 16 hosting UW-Stevens Point at 7 p.m.
