UW-L Wins Three of Four Matches at Dual Tournament

La Crosse, Wis. – The UW-La Crosse wrestling went 3-1 at its 2x4 Dual Tournament Saturday afternoon in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles are now 9-1 on the season.

UW-L, fifth in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III Rankings, opened the day with a 38-3 victory over 19th-ranked Loras College (Iowa). The Eagles then defeated seventh-ranked Saint John’s University (Minn.) 18-17 before a 24-13 loss to eighth-ranked North Central College (Ill.). UW-L finished the day with a 28-10 win over 12th-ranked Cornell College (Iowa).

The Eagles’ Matt Mauseth and Dan Laurent both went 4-0 on the day. Mauseth, ranked fifth in Division III at 149-pounds, recorded three wins by major decision and one by fall. Laurent, the defending national champion and currently ranked first at 285, earned one win by fall and one by major decision.

Cory Ferguson (165), Josh Zabel (184) and Andy Moore (197) all went 3-1 for UW-L. Ferguson earned two wins by major decision. Zabel is ranked sixth and Moore seventh in NCAA Division III.

UW-L’s Gus Green went 2-0 at 133-pounds while Dan Schulte finished 2-1 at 174. Schulte had one win by fall and one by major decision. The Eagles’ Alex Dahl went 2-2 at 141-pounds.

Other finishes included: Johnny Brennan 1-0 at 125; Jordan Foy 1-2 at 125; Justin Dixon 0-2 at 133; Ryan Farwell 0-4 at 157 and Grant Miller 0-1 at 174.

UW-L returns to action Tuesday, Dec. 9 hosting 10th-ranked UW-Whitewater at 7 p.m.
