UW-L Wins Nine of Ten Matches in Victory at Lakeland

Sheboygan, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team improved to 19-6 with a 32-3 non-conference victory at Lakeland College Friday night in Sheboygan.

The Eagles, ninth in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III rankings, won nine of 10 matches against the Muskies. Albie McKinney opened the dual with a win by decision (5-4) over Lakeland's David Copp at 125-pounds. UW-L's Bebeto Yewah won by decision (8-6) over Rob Frias at 133 and Alex Dahl earned a win by decision (4-3) over Kory Theil at 141-pounds for a 9-0 lead.

Matt Mauseth, ranked 10th in the country at 149-pounds, won by technical fall (18-3) over Isaac Roberson. Lakeland picked up its only win at 157-pounds as Jonas Flok won by decision (10-4) over Ryan Farwell.

UW-L won the final five matches Friday night. Cory Ferguson won by decision (10-6) over Jake Frias at 165-pounds and Mike Schmitz won by decision (5-0) over Ben Chapman at 174. The Eagles' Josh Zabel, ranked fifth in NCAA Division III at 184-pounds, won by fall (1:33) over AJ Aronstam to give UW-L a 26-3 lead.

Brenden Faust won by decision (7-2) over Everett Wood at 197-pounds and Dan Laurent won by decision (7-1) over Adam Sutter at 285. Laurent is ranked sixth in the country.

UW-L returns to action Saturday, Feb. 7 at the UW-Eau Claire Invite at 9 a.m.
