UW-L Sweeps WIAC Duals at UW-Oshkosh

Oshkosh, Wis. – The seventh-ranked UW-La Crosse wrestling team swept a pair of WIAC duals Thursday night in Kolf Sports Center at UW-Oshkosh. The Eagles defeated Lawrence University (Wis.) 47-3 and the host UW-Oshkosh Titans 41-0.
UW-L is now 17-5 overall and 4-1 in the WIAC.
In the victory over Lawrence, Jonny Brennan (125-pounds), Pat Parrillo (133), Alex Dahl (141), Cory Ferguson (165) and Mike Schmitz (174) picked up wins by forfeit. Schmitz is ranked eighth in NCAA Division III.
The Eagles' Nolan Hammel won by technical fall (17-0) over Matt Meiselman at 157-pounds while Josh Zabel won by decision (10-5) over Sam Laes at 174.UW-L's Brenden Faust won by decision (11-4) over John Buntrock at 197-pounds and Dan Laurent won by fall (:41) over John Fitzpatrick at 285. Zabel is ranked sixth in the country at 184-pounds while Laurent is fifth at 285.
Lawrence picked up its only points with Tony Norton winning by decision (6-3) over Zeb Secrist at 149.
Brennan opened the dual with UW-Oshkosh with a win by fall (4:17) over Carl DeLuca at 125. Dahl and Matt Mauseth also earned wins by fall. Dahl defeated Alex Mueller (6:48) at 141-pounds while Mauseth, ranked fifth in Division III, beat Jose Quintana (4:46) at 149.
Parrillo won by decision (9-5) over Kyle Kleuskens at 133 while Ryan Farwell won by decision (8-1) over Aaron Konitzer at 157. Ferguson picked up a win by decision (11-5) over James Dederich at 165; Schmitz won by decision (6-1) over Sam Engelland at 174 and Zabel won by major decision (13-1) over Eli Felts at 184.
The Eagles' Andy Moore, ranked fifth at 197-pounds, won by major decision (13-3) over Mike Kratz while Laurent won by decision (7-2) over Jason Laplante at 285.
UW-L returns to action Sunday, Jan. 25 at second-ranked Augsburg College (Minn.) at 2 p.m.
