UW-L Sweeps Duals at Olivet College; Two Wrestlers Place at Auggie Open

Olivet, Mich. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team swept its four matches at the Olivet College Duals Saturday. The Eagles are now 5-0 on the season.

UW-L, fifth in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) rankings, opened the day with a 32-7 victory over Mt. St. Joseph (Ohio) before a 40-9 win over Thiel College (Pa.). The Eagles then defeated Baldwin-Wallace (Ohio) 43-4 and finished with a victory over 29th-ranked Olivet (Mich.) 25-13.

Three wrestlers, Josh Zabel at 184-pounds; Andy Moore at 197 and Dan Laurent at 285, each went 4-0 for UW-L. Moore and Laurent earned a pair of wins by fall.

The Eagles' Matt Mauseth and Ryan Farwell each finished 2-0 at 149-pounds Saturday while Cory Ferguson and Jake Gosch each went 2-0 at 165. UW-L's Pat Parrillo finished 1-0 at 133-pounds and Jeff Erkel was 1-0 at 174.

Other finishers included: Jonny Brennan going 2-2 at 125-pounds (one win by fall); Gus Green 1-2 at 133; Kevin Barber 0-1 at 141; Alex Dahl 2-1 at 141 (one fall); Nolan Hammel 2-2 at 157 and Dan Schulte 2-1 at 174.

At the Auggie-Brute-Adidas Open in Minneapolis Saturday, UW-L's Justin Garcia and Bobby Dorn each finished second. Garcia was second at 141-pounds in the silver division while Dorn placed second at 149 in the sliver division. No team scores were kept.

UW-L returns action Thursday, December 4 at UW-Platteville beginning at 7 p.m.
