UW-L Opens WIAC Schedule with Shutout Victory at UW-Platteville

Plattevile, Wis. – The UW-La Crosse wrestling team opened its 2008-09 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) schedule with a 46-0 victory at UW-Platteville Thursday night.
The Eagles, fifth in the National Wrestling Coaches Association rankings, improve to 6-0 overall. The Pioneers fall to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the WIAC.
Jordan Foy opened the dual at 125-pounds with a overtime victory (5-3) over Andrew Skog. Gus Green gave UW-L a 7-0 lead with a win by major decision (14-6) over Chris Spaude at 133-pounds and Alex Dahl won by major decision (9-0) versus Andy Casper at 141 to make it 11-0.
UW-L's Matt Mauseth, ranked fifth in Division III at 149, won by fall (2:30) over UW-Platteville's Shaun Flom to give the Eagles a 17-0 lead. At 157-pounds, Ryan Farwell won by major decision (15-0) over Alex LeRoy and at 165-pounds, Cory Ferguson earned a win by fall (:30) over Brandon Person for a 27-0 advantage. Dan Schulte followed with another fall (5:59) at 174-pounds for UW-L over Erik Sutliff.
Josh Zabel, ranked sixth at 184-pounds, and Andy Moore, ranked seventh at 197, both recorded wins by decision. Zabel defeated Brad Zellner (11-1) by major decision while Moore defeated Matt Scott (8-4).
Defending 285-pound national champion Dan Laurent, currently ranked first in the country, finished the dual with a win by fall (1:10) over Adam Mossner for the final score of 46-0.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, December 6 hosting the UW-L 2x4 Tournament at 9 a.m. in Mitchell Hall.
