UW-L Drops Second Straight Conference Game

Eau Claire, Wis. – The UW-La Crosse women's basketball team fell to 5-3 overall and 0-2 in the WIAC with a 66-52 loss at eighth-ranked UW-Eau Claire Saturday night in Zorn Arena. The Blugolds improve to 9-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
UW-L led by two points early in the game before UW-Eau Claire took a 12-6 lead with 10:04 left. The Eagles then scored the next six points to force a tie. The contest was later tied 15-15 after a Mackenzie Hunter three-pointer for UW-L, but UW-Eau Claire went on a 7-0 run to lead 22-15 with 3:40 remaining. The Eagles later cut the lead to 28-25 at halftime.
The Blugolds opened the second half on a 11-4 run to lead 39-29 with 15:44 left. After Hunter scored to make it 39-31, the Blugolds went on a 10-3 run to lead 49-34 with 10:51 remaining. UW-L would get no closer than 10 points the rest of the game.
Hunter led UW-L with 23 points, finishing 10-of-24 from the field, including two-of-11 from three-point range. She hit her only free throw attempt of the game. Lindsay Wahl finished with 11 points, going three-of-five from the field and five-of-seven at the line. Amanda Waldvogel added seven points while totaling a team-high six rebounds and three assists.
UW-L shot 32.1% from the field, including 16.7% (four-of-24) from three-point range. The Eagles were 12-of-16 (75.0%) at the line.
Heather Witt led UW-Eau Claire with 23 points, going eight-of-10 from the field (five-of-six three-pointers) and two-of-two at free throw line. Hannah Mesick finished with 16 points while Ashley Anderson had 10.
UW-Eau Claire shot 49.0% from the field, including 45.5% (five-of-11) from three-point range. The Blugolds were 11-of-13 (84.6%) at the line.
UW-L returns to action Friday, December 19 at Luther College (Iowa) at 7 p.m.
