Wahl Scores Career-High; Eagles Defeat Carroll

La Crosse, Wis. – The UW-La Crosse women's basketball team improved to 4-1 on the season with an 84-77 victory over Carroll University (Wis.) Sunday afternoon in Mitchell Hall in the Holiday Inn Express Thanksgiving Classic. The Pioneers fall to 4-2 on the season.

Lindsay Wahl scored a career-high 28 points for UW-L. She also recorded her first career double-double finishing with 10 rebounds. Wahl was 11-of-13 from the field and six-of-eight at the free throw line while adding four steals. Mackenzie Hunter totaled 23 points, finishing seven-of-18 from the field (one-of-two from three-point range) and eight-of-10 at the line. Wahl and Hunter combined to score 36 points in the second half.

Dana Churchill finished with 14 points and seven rebounds for the Eagles.

UW-L took an 20-9 lead with 9:28 remaining in the first half before Carroll came back to force a 32-32 halftime tie. The contest was tied 12 times overall, including 60-60 with 7:43 left after a pair of free throws from the Pioneers' Janelle Groer. The Eagles then went on an 12-2 run to lead 72-62 with 4:41 remaining. Carroll cut the lead to four twice in the final 2:27, including 76-72 with 1:51 left, but Hunter hit all six of her free throws in the final 1:04.

UW-L shot 50.0% from the field, including 20.0% (one-of-five) from three-point range. The Eagles were 23-of-33 (69.7%) at the free throw line.

Lyndsey Seewald led Carroll with 27 points and eight rebounds while Groer finished with 24 points. The Pioneers shot 40.7% from the field, including 16.7% (three-of-18) from three-point range. The team was 26-of-38 (68.4%) at the line.

The teams combined for 51 fouls and finished 49-of-71 at the line.

UW-L returns to action Wednesday, December 3 at Ripon College (Wis.) at 7 p.m.
