Balanced Attack Leads UW-L to Win over UW-Platteville

La Crosse, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women’s basketball team earned an 80-50 victory over UW-Platteville Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles improve to 16-5 overall and 8-4 in the WIAC while the Pioneers fall to 7-13 overall and 4-8 in the conference. It is UW-L's 11th win in the last 13 games.

Mackenzie Hunter and Lindsay Wahl each scored 16 points for the Eagles to lead a balanced attack as seven players scored at least seven points in Wednesday's win. Hunter was seven-of-16 from the field, including two-of-two from three-point range while Wahl finished five-of-six from the field and six-of-seven at the free throw line. Taylor Larson added nine points for UW-L while Dana Churchill, Lindsey Litrenta and Melissa Lang each scored eight while Anna Halat finished with seven. Lang had a game-high seven rebounds while Churchill finished with six.

Lisa Grantman hit a three-pointer for UW-Platteville for the first scoring of the game, but Wahl converted a three-point play with 18:01 left to give UW-L a 5-3 lead and the Eagles never trailed again. UW-L led 8-6 with 13:38 remaining when it went on a 11-2 run. The Eagles led 34-24 at halftime.

UW-Platteville could get no closer than 12 points in the second half as UW-L led by as many as 35.

UW-L shot 53.2% from the field, including 62.1% (18-of-29) in the second half. The team was four-of-six (66.7%) from three-point range and 10-of-15 (66.7%) at the free throw line for the game. The Eagles finished with 44 points in the paint.

Grantman and Stacia Nemitz led UW-Platteville with 12 points each. The Pioneers shot 34.0% from the field, including 46.2% (six-of-13) from three-point range. The team was eight-of-13 (61.5%) at the line and finished the contest with 26 turnovers.

UW-L returns to action Saturday, Feb. 7 hosting UW-Oshkosh at 5 p.m. It will be Senior Day as the Eagles play their final regular-season home game.
