UW-L Earns Road Win Over Ripon

Ripon, Wis. Mackenzie Hunter and Lindsay Wahl combined for 43 points as the UW-La Crosse women's basketball team earned an 64-53 victory over Ripon College Wednesday night in Wyman Gymnasium. The Eagles improve to 5-1 on the season with their fourth straight win while the Red Hawks drop to 1-4.
Hunter finished with a game-high 23 points, going six-of-14 from the field (two-of-four from three-point range) and hitting all nine of her free throw attempts. Wahl recorded her second straight double-double with 20 points and career-high 11 rebounds. She was eight-of-16 from the field and four-of-five at the line.
The contest was tied seven times in the first half before the Eagles took a 36-34 halftime lead on Hunter's jumper with :06 remaining. UW-L never trailed in the second half, going on a 8-2 run to start the half to lead 44-36 with 16:23 left. Ripon later cut the lead to 44-40 with 14:05 remaining, but the Red Hawks could get no closer. The Eagles led 59-51 with 1:40 left and made five-of-six free throw attempts in the final :56.
Melissa Lang scored five points off the bench for UW-L while grabbing seven rebounds. She also had a team-high three steals and finished with two assists and one block.
The Eagles shot 35.9% from the field, including 22.2% (two-of-nine) from three-point range. UW-L was 16-of-18 (88.9%) at the free throw line.
Erin Lind led Ripon with eight points while Amanda Lindauer finished with seven points. Ripon shot 38.9% from the field, including 21.1% (four-of-19) from three-point range. The Red Hawks were seven-of-11 (63.6%) at the line.
UW-L returns to action Wednesday, December 10 hosting UW-Stevens Point in its WIAC opener at 7 p.m. in Mitchell Hall.
