UW-L Falls to Fourth-Ranked UW-Eau Claire

La Crosse, Wis. - The UW-La Crosse soccer squad dropped its first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) match of the season Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 loss to UW-Eau Claire at Fields for Kids. The Eagles fall to 5-3-1 overall and 2-1 in the WIAC while the Blugolds improve to 8-0-2 overall and 3-0 in the league.

UW-Eau Claire entered the contest ranked fourth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Top-25 Poll.

After the teams battled to a scoreless first half, the Blugolds' Liz Kooistra scored her fourth goal of the year at 65:05 with an assist from Rachel Nerison to make it 1-0. Kooistra added her second goal of the match and fifth of the season at 88:13 to give UW-Eau Claire a 2-0 lead. Amy Smith recorded the assist.

UW-Eau Claire outshot UW-L, 33-8, including 14-2 with shots on goal. The Blugolds finished with 19 shots in the second period while the Eagles registered one.

Allie Rivard recorded two saves for UW-Eau Claire to record her third shutout of the season. Amanda Clark had 12 saves for UW-L.

UW-L returns to action Wednesday, October 1 at UW-Stevens Point at 4 p.m.
