UW-Stevens Point Earns Win over UW-La Crosse

La Crosse, Wis. - The UW-Stevens Point soccer team earned a 4-0 victory over UW-La Crosse Wednesday night at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles fall to 3-9-1 overall and 2-5 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Pointers improve to 9-3-1 overall and 6-0 in the conference.
UW-Stevens Point, receiving votes in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III Poll, took a 1-0 lead at 8:48 as Vicki Bieschke scored with an assist from Mary Jean Cornelius. Kirsti Nickels tallied her first goal of the match at 28:14 for a 2-0 Pointers' lead. Lauryn Semling and Bieschke had the assists.
The Pointers made it 3-0 at 60:11 as Jackie Spees scored on a penalty kick. Nickels notched her second goal of the match at 75:14 on an assist from Semling.
UW-Stevens Point outshot UW-L, 27-9, including 11-3 on shots on goal.
The Eagles' Sagan Pizzingrilli recorded seven saves while the Pointers' Liz Hunter had three to record the shutout.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, Oct. 17 hosting UW-Whitewater at 1 p.m.
