Schultz and Von Glahn Lead in Doubleheader Sweep of UW-River Falls

La Crosse, Wis. – Heather Schultz and Kaylyn Von Glahn each pitched a complete-game victory as the UW-La Crosse softball team earned a sweep of its Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) doubleheader with UW-River Falls Friday afternoon at North Campus Field. The Eagles won the opener, 8-3, and the nightcap 6-2 to improve to 23-9 overall and 8-4 in the conference. The Falcons fall to 15-13 overall and 3-7 in the WIAC.
Schultz went 7.0 innings in the opener to improve to 10-6. She allowed eight hits, three runs and four walks while striking out seven. UW-River Falls took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Patty Olson scored on a UW-L error. The Eagles came back in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead as Jenna Ahnen had a sacrifice bunt for an RBI and Cara Salm a sacrifice fly to score Rachel Weyer.
UW-L scored three times in the bottom of the second to lead 5-1 as Weyer knocked in a run on a fielder's choice and Salm had a two-run single. After the Falcons scored in the top of the third on Mindy Rudiger's RBI single, the Eagles tallied three runs in the bottom of the inning. Natalie Stoll had an RBI single while Rachel Croak and Stoll scored on a UW-River Falls error. Cassie Peterson had a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth for the Falcons to end the scoring.
Croak, Salm, Stoll and Katie Pietrowiak each had two hits for UW-L. Croak scored three runs while Salm finished with three RBI. Weyer and Stoll each scored twice.
Jamie Klein (8-5) suffered the loss for UW-River Falls, going 2.0 innings, allowing four hits, five runs (three earned) and two walks while striking out one. Jessica Lundgren, Rudiger and Peterson each had two hits for the Falcons.
Von Glahn improved to 8-2 with the win in the nightcap, pitching 7.0 innings, allowing three hits and two runs (both earned) with four strikeouts.
UW-L took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third on Salm's two-run single and Michaela Miller scored on Beth Schmidt's double in the third for a 3-0 lead. The Eagles added three more runs in the fifth as Ahnen scored on an Falcons' error and Stoll had a two-run double. The Falcons scored two unearned runs in the sixth.
Stoll finished 2-for-3 with two RBI while Salm was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Ahnen was 2-for-3 with one run.
Rose Tusa (4-3) took the loss, pitching 6.0 innings, allowing nine hits, six runs (one earned) and two walks with four strikeouts. Rachel Mathias was 2-for-3.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, April 18 hosting UW-Stout at 1 p.m.
