UW-L Throws Pair of Shutouts in Sweep of UW-Stout

La Crosse, Wis. – The UW-La Crosse softball team earned a pair of 8-0 wins over UW-Stout Saturday afternoon at North Campus Field. UW-L is now 25-9 overall and 10-4 in the WIAC while UW-Stout is 14-18 overall and 4-8 in the conference.
In the opener, Heather Schultz (11-6) pitched a complete-game shutout, going 6.0 innings, allowing three hits and one walk with 10 strikeouts.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth on Natalie Stoll’s RBI single to score Katie Pietrowiak. UW-L scored four times in bottom of the fifth as Cara Salm had a run-scoring double, Katie Keyes an RBI bunt single and Kelsey Golackson an RBI double. Michaela Miller scored the final run of the inning on a UW-Stout error.
Salm finished the scoring with a three-run double in the bottom of the sixth scoring Jenna Ahnen, Rachel Weyer and Rachel Croak.
Golackson was 3-for-3 with an RBI while Weyer finished 3-for-4 with two runs. Salm finished 2-for-4 with four RBI while Ahnen was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Kristy Hoffman (6-7) suffered the loss for UW-Stout, pitching 4.2 innings, allowing 10 his, five runs (three earned) and one walk. Kat Nelson, Nelly Peterson and Jenna Johnson each had a hit for the Blue Devils.
In the nightcap, the Eagles earned the win in five innings. Kaylyn Von Glahn (9-2) picked up the victory, going 4.0 innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out three. Lacey Probst went 1.0 inning with a strikeout.
UW-L led 1-0 in the bottom of the first on Salm’s double to score Croak. The Eagles added five runs in the second inning, highlighted by Ahnen’s two-run single.
Ahnen finished the game with a two-run double in the fifth. She finished 2-for-4 with four RBI in the game while Golackson was 2-for-3 with a run scored and Stoll 2-for-3 with two runs. Croak also scored twice.
Jenna Johnson (2-4) took the loss, pitching 3.0 innings, allowing eight hits, six runs (one earned) and two walks while striking out one. Nelson had the only hit for UW-Stout in the second game, a fourth inning single.
UW-L returns to action Wednesday, April 22 at Luther College (Iowa) in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
