UW-L Eighth After Second Day at NCAA III Championships

Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's swimming and diving team is in eighth-place after the second day of competition at the 2009 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championships at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
The Eagles have 78.0 team points while Kenyon College leads with 309.0. Emory University is second (246.0) followed by Denison University (233.0), Williams College (214.5) and Amherst College (110.5) to round-out the top-five. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps is sixth (84.0) followed by Calvin College (80.0), UW-La Crosse (78.0), Johns Hopkins University (69.0) and Carthage College (64.0) in the top-10. A total of 45 teams have scored points.
In action Thursday, UW-L's 200 freestyle relay of Chelsea Hoff, Brianna Peyer, Katelyn Hartung and Clare Hathaway placed seventh (1:35.26) to earn All-America honors. The relay went 1:35.37 in Thursday's prelims.
The Eagles' 400 medley relay of Hoff, Peyer, Danielle Ellingson and Hartung competed in the consolation final Thursday night and placed 11th (3:53.10). The relay, which went 3:53.50 in the prelims Thursday morning, earned honorable mention All-America awards with its 11th-place finish.
Individually, Ellingson recorded the 18th-fastest time in the 400 I.M. preliminaries Thursday morning at 4:35.72, but failed to advance to the final.
