Doubles Team Falls in ITA Regional Quarterfinals; Vivian Finishes Second in Fall Invite

St. Peter, Minn. - The UW-La Crosse women's tennis team completed action at the ITA Midwest Regional and Gustavus Adolphus College Fall Invitational Saturday afternoon. No team scores were recorded.
The Eagles' doubles team of Kelly Stadum/Kelly Kuether advanced to the quarterfinals Saturday, but fell (8-6) to Sam Frank/Sierra Krebsbach of Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.). Stadum/Kuether defeated Hannah Jensen/Megan Fiala of Coe College (Iowa) in their first match (8-5) Saturday. They defeated UW-Whitewater's Amy Siemon/Kelly Rutkowski (8-5) in action Friday.
In other doubles competition at the ITA Regional, Carlie Bohrman/Sarah Schoenwaelder went 1-1 and Katie McDonald/Jenny Maruyama finished 1-2. Bohrman/Schoenwaelder defeated Rachel Tiegs/Ally Brandell of St. Benedict (8-6), but fell to Hillary Allen/Katy Delagardelle of Coe (8-5). McDonald/Maruyama lost to Kristina Naidicz/Beth Kaufman of Carthage (8-3), defeated Allison Bruflodt/Alex Frank of St. Thomas and lost to Ingrid Stensvaag/Anna Smith of UW-Whitewater (8-3).
Kuether, Maruyama and Stadum each went 1-1 in singles action at the ITA Regional. Kuether opened with a victory over Christine Muller of St. Olaf (6-4, 7-5) before falling to Marianne Barau of Gustavus Adolphus (7-5, 3-6, 16-14) in the second round. Maruyama beat Kelsey Eatherson of Hamline (6-3, 6-1), but lost to UW-Whitewater's Michelle Daciolas in the second round (6-3, 6-1). Stadum defeated Kylie Huether of St. Benedict in a play-in match (6-1, 6-1) before losing to Ingrid Stensvaag of UW-Whitewater (6-7, 6-3, 11-9).
Bohrman went 2-2 in singles play and advanced to the consolation quarterfinals after dropping her first match to Allie Hinman of UW-Stout (6-2, 6-2). Bohrman defeated Kristine Naidicz of Carthage (6-2, 6-1) and Erika Zevin of Beloit (6-4, 4-6, 10-4) in the consolation bracket before losing to Michelle Schupach of Coe (7-5, 6-0).
Schoenwaelder finished 1-2 in singles play this weekend while McDonald went 0-2. Schoenwaelder fell to Amanda Wenzel of Macalester in the play-in round (6-0, 6-2) before defeating Tricia Crawford of Augustana (8-6) and losing to Amy Siemon of UW-Whitewater (7-6, 6-1) in the consolation round. McDonald fell to Erin Gudul of Carleton (6-2, 7-5) and Hannah Perwin of Beloit (6-4, 6-3).
UW-L also competed in the Gustavus Adolphus College Fall Invitational this weekend. The Eagles' Andrea Vivian finished second in singles with a 5-1 record. She defeated Callie Schroeder of St. Norbert (8-5), Sara Ohlman of Coe (8-5) and Abby Martin of UW-Whitewater (9-8) to advance to the semifinals of the top half where she beat Lauren Jones of St. Benedict (6-3, 1-6, 10-4). Vivian defeated Sydney Divebiss of UW-Whitewater (7-6, 6-2) to win the top half of singles, but lost to UW-Whitewater's Lauren Aguilar in the title match (6-2, 6-0).
Also in the top half of the draw, the Eagles' Amanda O'Keefe went 2-1 while Megan Fallon was 1-1 and Lindsay Seccombe 0-1. O'Keefe defeated Kayln Schroeder of St. Catherine (8-6) and Leigh Kreklau of Gustavus Adolphus (8-2) before losing to Divebiss of UW-Whitewater (8-2). Fallon defeated Melanie Gail of Concordia (8-2) and lost to Alison Utke of Gustavus Adolphus (8-6) while Seccombe fell to Jones of St. Benedict (8-4)
In the bottom half of the singles draw in the Fall Invitational, Mara Weiner and Amanda Dlugopolski both advanced to the semifinals with 3-1 records. Weiner defeated Petra Hagberg of St. Scholastica (8-0), Kelly Rutkowski of UW-Whitewater (8-2) and Andrea Allis of St. Mary's (8-2). She then lost to Mallory Shellum of Gustavus Adolphus (6-0, 6-4) in semifinals. Dlugopolski defeated Molly Yokiel of Gustavus Adolphus (8-5); Sarah Magnuson of St. Olaf (8-4) and James (8-3) before losing to Aguilar of UW-Whitewater (6-1, 6-0) in the semifinals.
The Eagles' Anna Schmidt and Katie Schultz both lost their only match in the fall invitational. Schmidt lost to Sarah Rossman of St. Benedict (8-4) while Schultz lost to Brittany Reece of Augustana (8-5).
In doubles play at the fall invitational, O'Keefe/Seccombe advanced to the quarterfinals with a 2-1 record. The duo defeated Sapio/Panko of Augustana (8-4) and Foster/Zhao of UW-Whitewater (8-4) before losing to Siepel/Jones of St. Benedict (8-1) in quarterfinals. Schmidt/Weiner went 1-1, defeating Olson/Ginder of St. Catherine (8-1) and losing to Divebiss/Martin of UW-Whitewater (8-5).
The Eagles' doubles teams of Dlugopolski/Schultz and Fallon/Vivian both advanced to the consolation final to face each other, but the match was not played. Dlugopolski/Schultz lost to Shellum/Horton of Gustavus Adolphus (8-3) before defeating Kiemele/Krier of Hamline (8-1) and Freeman/Gail of Concordia (8-1). Fallon/Vivian lost to Kappel/Aguilar of UW-Whitewater (8-4), but came back to beat Munsterman/Schroeder of St. Catherine (8-3), Annis/Trulock of Gustavus Adolphus (8-6) and Muller/Ellis of St. Olaf.
UW-L returns to action Tuesday, Sept. 29 hosting UW-River Falls at 3:30 p.m.
