UW-L Wins Pair of Duals; Hehli Wins 200th Career Match

Stevens Point, Wis. - The UW-La Crosse women's tennis team improved to 6-1 on the season with a pair of dual victories Sunday afternoon in Stevens Point. The Eagles opened up their Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) campaign with a 6-3 win over UW-Stevens Point and defeated St. Norbert College (Wis.) 9-0 in a non-conference match-up.
With the victory over St. Norbert, 15-year head coach Bill Hehli earned his 200th career dual victory as UW-L's women's coach. He is now 200-72, a winning percentage of .735. Hehli is also 165-113 in 14 years as the Eagles' men's head coach.
Versus the host Pointers, UW-L won four of six singles matches. Carlie Bohrman defeated Emily Riordan at No. 3 singles (6-1, 6-1) for the Eagles while Katie McDonald beat Kaitlyn King at No. 4 (6-0, 6-0). UW-L's Mara Weiner won at No. 5 singles over Kaylei Sorensen (6-1, 6-4) and Megan Fallon defeated Allison Fortier at No. 6 (6-1, 6-0).
UW-Stevens Point's Rachel Benn beat UW-L's Kelly Kuether at No. 1 singles (7-5, 5-7, 10-7) and the Pointers' Chelsea Allbaugh defeated Kelly Stadum at No. 2 singles (6-3, 6-2).
UW-L won two of three doubles matches. Kuether/Stadum defeated Benn/Allbaugh at No. 1 doubles (8-5) and Bohrman/Sarah Schoenwaelder beat Riordan/King at No. 2 (8-5). The Pointers' Sorensen/Leah Benn won the No. 3 doubles match over the Eagles' Fallon/Andrea Vivian (8-4).
Against St. Norbert, Kuether (No. 1); Stadum (No. 2); Bohrman (No. 3); McDonald (No. 4); Weiner (No. 5) and Schoenwaelder (No. 6) swept the singles for UW-L. Kuether defeated the Green Knights' Lauren Post (6-2, 4-6, 11-9) while Stadum beat Kelly Van Handel (7-6, 6-2). Bohrman earned the No. 3 singles win over Allyson Yankle (6-1, 6-1), McDonald defeated Anna Reardon at No. 4 (6-1, 6-0), Weiner beat Maria Slusarek at No. 5 (6-0, 6-1) and Schoenwaelder earned the win at No. 6 over Callie Schroeder (6-3, 6-1).
In doubles, Kuether/Stadum defeated Post/Van Handel at No. 1 (8-2); Bohrman/Schoenwaelder beat Yankle/Erin Riutta at No. 2 (8-4) and Fallon/Vivian defeated Slusarek/Kristyn Klind at No. 3 (8-4).
UW-L returns to action Friday, Sept. 25 at the ITA Midwest Regional in St. Peter, Minnesota starting at 9 a.m.
