UW-L Defeats UW-Eau Claire; Falls to UW-Whitewater in WIAC Qualifying Tournament

Whitewater, Wis. - The UW-La Crosse women's tennis team fell 7-2 to UW-Whitewater Saturday afternoon in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Qualifying Tournament title match. The Eagles finish their season at 18-5 while the Warhawks improve to 23-3. With the win, UW-Whitewater earns the conference's automatic bid to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Tournament.
UW-Whitewater took five of the six singles matches Saturday. Kalla Schaefer defeated Kelly Kuether at No. 1 (6-2, 6-3), Annie Smith beat Katie McDonald at No. 3 (3-6, 6-4, 6-4), Amy Siemon defeated Jenny Maruyama at No. 4 (6-3, 7-5), Michelle Daciolas beat Sarah Schoenwaelder at No. 5 (6-2, 6-1) and Kara Amundson defeated Megan Fallon at No. 6 (6-1, 7-6).
The Eagles' Carlie Bohrman earned the victory at No. 2 singles, defeating Ingrid Stensvaag (7-5, 7-5).
In doubles play, Schaefer/Daciolas defeated Kuether/Schoenwaelder at No. 1 (8-3) while Stensvaag/Siemon beat Maruyama/Debbie Braun at No. 2 (8-2).
UW-L's Bohrman/McDonald defeated Kathleen Kappel/Kelly Rutkowski at No. 3 doubles (8-5).
The Eagles advanced to the title match with a 5-3 win over UW-Eau Claire Saturday morning. Kuether (No. 1), McDonald (No. 3) and Maruyama (No. 4) won in singles play for UW-L while Kuether/Schoenwaelder (No. 1) and Bohrman/McDonald (No. 3) earned doubles victories.
