UW-L Wins Esten Challenge; May and Bohl Capture Titles

Winona, Minn . – The UW-La Crosse women's track & field team captured the Phil Esten Challenge Friday night at St. Mary's University. The Eagles finished with 146.33 team points while Winona (Minn.) State University was second with 140 and the University of Minnesota third with 122.83. UW-Eau Claire finished fourth (95) followed by UW-River Falls (62.33), UW-Stout (49.50), St. Mary's (20) and the Wisconsin Track Club (2).

UW-L's Ashton May and Christy Bohl both captured individual field event titles Friday night. May took the long jump (18-2 1/2) while Bohl won the shot put (43-4 1/4). Both also provisionally qualified for the NCAA III Championships. Along with winning the shot put, Bohl was fourth in the discus throw (130-3), fifth in the javelin throw (108-9) and sixth in the hammer throw (147-1).

Other top finishes in the field events for the Eagles included Amy Garringer third (5-3) and Jenna Starck fourth (5-1) in the high jump; Kaitlyn Joyce third in the pole vault (11-2 1/2) and Kjirsten Jacobson third in the long jump (16-6 1/2). Abby Schultz finished fourth in the triple jump (35-4 3/4).

On the track, Danica Schaefer placed second (58.15) and Kelsey Katarow third (58.21) in the 400-meter dash while Jamie Scott was second in the 100-meter hurdles (15.41) and Mary Olson second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:40.12). Leigh-Ann DesRoches finished third (42:41.13) and Amanda Gresl fourth (45:24.01) in the 10,000-meter run while Kailey Charlton was third (12.71) in the 100-meter dash and Alison Kolinski fourth in the 1,500-meter run (4:51.07).

UW-L's 4x100 (50.36) and 4x400 (4:01.69) relays both placed second.
