UW-L Hosts NCAA Qualifier at New Sports Complex; Scott Finishes Second in Heptathlon at UW-River Falls

La Crosse, Wis. – The UW-La Crosse women’s track & field squad hosted an NCAA Qualifier Thursday, May 14 in the first event held at the newly constructed Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles' Jamie Scott finished second in the heptathlon (3,910 points) at the UW-River Falls Last Chance Multi Meet Thursday and Friday, May 14-15. No team scores were kept at either event.
The Eagles’ Ashton May automatically qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships after winning the long jump in the NCAA Qualifier with a school record mark of 19-7. Teammate Katie Fondow also automatically qualified with a second-place finish and mark of 19-5 1/4. UW-L’s Kjirsten Jacobson finished sixth in the long jump (16-6 ½).
Fondow also provisionally qualified after a third-place finish (38-5) in the triple jump.
UW-L’s 4x100-meter relay of Kailey Charlton, May, Fondow and Caitlin Schetter also met automatic qualifying status with a time of 46.94. The Eagles also won the 4x400-meter relay with the team of Laurel Beck, Kelsey Katarow, Danica Schaefer and Lauren Seidl. The relay provisionally qualified with a time of 3:50.61.
Alison Kolinski won the 5,000-meter run (18:11.24) and Kayla La Porte finished fourth (19:22.27).
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Megan Johnson was second (11:12.00) and Michelle Horn third (11:52.92) with Johnson provisionally qualifying for the national meet.
Other top finishes for the Eagles included Amy Jo Garringer placing second (5-3 ¼), Sara Mitchell seventh (5-1) and Kayla Johnson ninth (5-1) in the high jump. Christy Bohl was fourth in the shot put (44-8) and provisionally qualified for the national championships with her mark. Johnson finished eighth (94-5), Tacara Lovings ninth (89-9) and Megan Nitka 10th (87-0) in the javelin.
Maggie May was seventh in the 100 (15.50) and 400 (1:05.39) meter hurdles.
