UW-L Wins Third Straight WIAC Title; Schetter Named Field Athlete of the Meet

Menomonie, Wis. - The UW-La Crosse women's track & field team captured its third straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Indoor Championship Sunday night at UW-Stout's Sports & Fitness Center. The Eagles finished with 196.5 team point while UW-Eau Claire was second with 144.5 and UW-Oshkosh third with 110.5. UW-Stevens Point placed fourth (65.0) followed by UW-River Falls (49.0), UW-Platteville (44.0), UW-Whitewater (41.5), UW-Stout (32.0) and UW-Superior (18.0).
UW-L captured its league-leading 19th conference title in school history.
The Eagles' Caitlin Schetter was named the WIAC Field Performer of the Meet after capturing the triple jump (38-11 3/4) and 55-meter dash (7.25) Sunday. She automatically qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships with her winning mark in the triple jump and provisionally qualified in the 55-meter dash. Schetter set a WIAC record in winning the long jump Saturday with an automatic qualifying mark of 19-5 1/2. She also finished third in the 200-meter dash (25.61) Sunday.
Schetter was also named the Judy Kruckman Co-Scholar-Athlete with UW-Platteville's Jessica Scott.
Jamie Scott won the pentathlon Sunday with a national provisional qualifying score of 3,143 points. Lauren Terry was fifth with a provisional score of 3,001 points. Terry was also named to the Larry Zirgibel All-Sportsmanship Team. Leeanne Nowicki placed sixth (2,772) in the pentathlon while Amy Jo Garinger was eighth (2,512).
Katie Fondow placed second (37-6) in the triple jump Sunday while Abby Schulz was third (36-11 1/2), Ashton May fourth (36-9) and Maggie May eighth (34-11 3/4). Fondow met provisional qualifying standards with her second-place finish. In the weight throw, Christy Bohl finished fifth with a national provisional qualifying mark of 50-10 1/4.
On the track, along with Schetter winning the 55-meter dash, UW-L's Ashton May was fourth (7.47), Kailey Charlton sixth (7.48) and Laurel Beck seventh (7.52). Maggie May finished fifth (8.66) and Alecia Ellingstad was seventh (8.82) in the 55-meter hurdles.
Danica Schaefer finished third (58.74) and Kelsey Katarow fifth in the 400-meter dash (59.37) while Lauren Seidl was seventh (26.38), Beck eighth (26.39) and Katarow ninth (26.62) in the 200-meter dash.
Michelle Horn finished third in the 3,000-meter run (10:16.47) for UW-L.
In the 800-meter run, Kriston Siemianowski finished fourth (2:20.26) and Kelsey Heinz seventh (2:22.19). UW-L's Megan Johnson was seventh in the mile run (5:20.21) and Stephanie Perleberg eighth (5:21.60).
The Eagles' 4x200-meter relay was disqualified while the 4x400-meter relay of Seidl, Caitlin Wippermann, Kaitlyn Joyce and Kayla Raduka finished fifth (4:06.21).
