UW-L Wins Third Straight WIAC Title; Garringer and Fondow Capture Titles

Oshkosh, Wis. - The UW-La Crosse women's track & field team captured its third straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Championship Saturday afternoon at UW-Oshkosh's J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. It is the Eagles' 25th conference title in school history.
UW-L finished with 211.0 team points while UW-Oshkosh was second with 181.0 and UW-Eau Claire third with 146.0. UW-Stevens Point placed fourth (94.0) followed by UW-River Falls (78.0), UW-Platteville (58.0), UW-Whitewater (50.0), UW-Stout (33.0) and UW-Superior (6.0).
The Eagles' Amy Jo Garringer and Katie Fondow both captured individual conference titles Saturday as Garringer took the high jump (5-3 1/4) and Fondow the triple jump (37-10 3/4). UW-L also won the 4x100-meter relay (48.11).
UW-L's Jamie Scott was second in the heptathlon (4,223 points) while Lauren Terry was fourth (3,882), Leanne Nowicki sixth (3,709) and Megan Nitka 10th (3,074).
In the 100-meter dash, the Eagles had five of the top-nine finishers as Ashton May placed third (12.11), Caitlin Schetter fourth (12.26), Elizabeth Kramer fifth (12.44), Fondow sixth (12.47) and Kailey Charlton ninth (12.66). Four of the top-seven finishers in the 200-meter dash were also members of UW-L's squad. Lauren Seidl was fourth (24.74), Schetter fifth (24.88), Danica Schaefer sixth (24.95) and May seventh (24.96).
Schaefer was also third in the 400-meter dash (58.88) while Kelsey Katarow finished sixth (59.75) and Laurel Beck eighth (1:00.26).
Maggie May earned a pair of top finishes in the hurdles events Saturday, placing fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.35) and seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.57). Scott was fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.42).
UW-L's Beth Richmond placed fifth (2:19.28) in the 800-meter run while temmate Kriston Siemianowski was sixth (2:19.37). Allison Kolinski finished seventh (4:52.41) in the 1,500-meter run and eighth in the 5,000-meter run (18:42.19) while the Eagles' Michelle Horn was ninth in the 1,500 (4:57.50).
UW-L also placed third in the 4x400-meter relay (3:57.43).
In field events, Christy Bohl was third in the shot put (42-9 1/2) and fifth in the discus (132-7). Schetter was third (37-7 3/4), May sixth (36-2 3/4) and Abby Schultz ninth (36-1 1/4) in the triple jump while in the high jump, Sara Mitchell and Jenna Starck tied for third (5-1 1/4) and Jenna Hudziak and Terry tied for seventh (5-1 1/4).
