UW-L Opens Season with Win at UW-Eau Claire Blugold Open; Schetter Wins Two Events

La Crosse, Wis. – The UW-La Crosse women's indoor track & field squad opened its 2009 season with a victory at the six-team UW-Eau Claire Blugold Open Friday night. The Eagles finished with 155.5 team points while Winona State University, Minn. was second with 140.5 and UW-Eau Claire third with 132.0. University of St. Thomas, Minn. was fourth (86.0) followed by St. Norbert College, Wis. (24.0) and St. Mary's University, Minn. (9.0).

UW-L's Caitlin Schetter won two field events Friday night as she captured the long (18-7 1/4) and triple (37-3) jumps. Jenna Hudziak won the high jump (5-1 1/4).

The Eagles' Lauren Seidl took the 200-meter dash (26.75) on the track while Beth Richmond was second in the 800-meter run (2:19.77).

Other top finishes in the field events included: Christy Bohl placing second in the shot put (42-2 3/4) and Jamie Scott tying for second in the pole vault (11-3 3/4). Kaitlin Joyce was third (11-3 3/4) and Kaitlin Genthe fourth (10-10) in the pole vault.

Katie Fondow finished second (16-9 3/4) and Ashton May third (16-8 1/2) in the long jump while Kayla Johnson was third (5-1 1/4) and Amy Jo Garringer fifth (5-1 1/4) in the high jump. UW-L's Abby Schulz placed third in the triple jump (34-11).

On the track, Alecia Ellingstad placed third in the 55-meter hurdles (8.84) while Scott was fifth (8.98). Michelle Horn finished third (5:32.02) and Kriston Siemianowski fourth (5:23.48) in the mile run. Kayla Raduka was fourth in the 400-meter dash (1:01.17).

UW-L's 4x400-meter relay finished fifth (4:12.26).
