Erickson Named National Assistant Coach of the Year

New Orleans, La. – UW-La Crosse's Travis Erickson has been selected the 2009 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Women's Outdoor Assistant Coach of the Year.
Erickson, who primarily coaches the jumps, had three athletes earn five All-America honors at the 2009 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 21-23 in Marietta, Ohio. Senior Caitlin Schetter was the national champion in the long jump and finished sixth in the triple jump while senior Katie Fondow placed second in both the long and triple jumps. Junior Ashton May finished fourth in the long jump at this year's national meet.
Erickson, who completed his fourth year as an assistant coach for UW-L in 2009, was named the USTFCCCA Midwest Region Women's Outdoor Assistant Coach of the Year in May.
Schetter (long jump), Fondow (triple jump) and freshman Amy Jo Garringer (high jump) took titles at the 2009 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Championships. Fondow was also second in the long jump.
Schetter won the long and triple jump at the 2009 WIAC Indoor Championships and was selected the Field Athlete of the Meet. Schetter, who finished her career with 13 All-America honors, took her second consecutive indoor long jump title at the 2009 NCAA Division III Championships and was selected the USTFCCCA National Indoor Track & Field Women's Field Athlete of the Year. It marked the second straight season she earned the honor.
Fondow ended her career with her nine All-America honors while May has four.
