UW-L Hosts NCAA Qualifier; Schetter Sets School and Facility Record

La Crosse, Wis. – The UW-La Crosse women’s track & field team hosted an NCAA Qualifying Meet Thursday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium. No team scores were kept in the final collegiate meet held at UW-L. A new stadium will be constructed at the conclusion of the WIAA State Meet scheduled for May 30-31.
Caitlin Schetter set a school and Veterans Memorial Stadium record in winning the long jump Thursday night. She also automatically qualified for the NCAA III Championships with a mark of 19-6 1/4. Schetter broke the school record of 19-4 3/4 set by Katie Fondow in 2007 and the facility record of 19-4 3/4 held by Tara Jaeger of UW-Oshkosh in 1997. Schetter also placed third in the triple jump Thursday with a national provisional mark of 38-7 3/4.
The Eagles’ Alecia Ellingstad won the pole vault Thursday with a provisional mark of 12-1 1/2.
UW-L had two other finishers in the top-four in the long jump as Krista Kopetsky placed second (18-7) and Fondow fourth (17-7 1/2). Kopetsky provisionally qualified for the NCAA III Championships.
Jessie Schulz was fifth in the triple jump (35-7 1/4).
In the 400-meter dash, Danica Schaefer was second (57.93) and Ashley Pershing third (58.68). UW-L had two runners place in the top-five in the 100-meter hurdles as Chris Claussen finished third (15.90) and Ellingstad fifth (15.80). Claussen provisionally qualified for the national meet with a time of 14.92 in the preliminaries.
The Eagles’ 4x100-meter relay provisionally qualified as it placed fourth overall (48.21).
Sarah Duchow finished fourth in the 200-meter dash (25.55). Tiffany Ness was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:09.44) while Rachel DeDeyn was fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:41.94).
