UW-L Earns Pair of Wins; Two Players Selected to All-Tournament Team

La Crosse, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team improved to 4-0 on the season with a pair of wins Saturday at the UW-L Invitational in Mitchell Hall. It marks the second straight year the Eagles have started 4-0.
In Saturday's first match, UW-L defeated Maryville University (Mo.) by the score of 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-12). Amber Schoonover led the Eagles with 12 kills. She had one hitting error on 24 attempts for a .458 hitting percentage. Elizabeth Carlisle added eight kills while Brianne Stankus and Nina Walch each had seven and Jenna Starck six.
Emily Carroll finished with 33 assists. Carlisle and Melannie Tate led UW-L with 16 digs each while Carroll added 11. UW-L hit .275 as a team, including .419 (14 kills, one error, 31 attempts) in set three.
The Eagles earned a 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-17) victory over Fontbonne College (Mo.) in their second match Saturday. Stankus led UW-L with 10 kills. She finished the match with zero errors on 22 attempts for a .455 hitting percentage. Walch had nine kills, one error in 19 attempts (.421).
Kasey Corcoran had 18 assists for UW-L. All 16 players had a dig for the Eagles, including Tate with a team-high nine. Carlisle finished with eight digs while Corcoran and Melany Vanden Langenberg seven. UW-L hit .171 as a team.
Schoonover and Walch were named to the all-tournament team.
UW-L returns to action Friday, September 5 at the Gustavus Adolphus Classic in St. Peter, Minn.
