Volleyball Team Splits Pair of Matches at Invite

La Crosse, Wis. – The UW-La Crosse volleyball team split a pair of matches at its own invitational Friday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles defeated Buena Vista University, Iowa 3-1 (25-19, 25-13, 20-25, 25-12) and lost to Luther College, Iowa 3-0 (25-19, 25-8, 25-20). UW-L is now 6-20 on the season.

Versus Buena Vista, Brianne Stankus and Katie Gunderson each had 11 kills for UW-L while Caitlin Jahnke finished with eight and Amanda Hardy had seven. Liz Schlobohm recorded 33 assists as the Eagles hit .346 for the match, including .464 in the fourth and final set with 13 kills in 28 attempts.

Melannie Tate led UW-L with 12 digs while Jennifer Stutz added 11 and Schlobohm 10. The Eagles had 6.0 team blocks.

In the loss to Luther, Stankus had a team-high 11 kills while Schlobohm had 22 assists. UW-L hit .093 as a team.

Tate led the Eagles with 13 digs while Stankus finished with 12.

UW-L returns to action Saturday, Oct. 24 with two matches. The Eagles play Cornell College (Iowa) at 10 a.m. and Clarke College (Iowa) at 2 p.m. in Mitchell Hall.
