Volleyball Team Drops Final WIAC Match of Season

For Immediate Release: Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009

La Crosse, Wis. – The UW-La Crosse volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-17) to UW-River Falls Saturday afternoon in Mitchell Hall in the Eagles' final Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) match of the season. The Eagles drop to 5-19 overall and 2-6 in the WIAC while the Falcons improve to 12-13 overall and 4-3 in the conference.

Brianne Stankus led UW-L with eight kills Saturday while adding 12 digs. Caitlin Jahnke recorded five kills while Liz Schlobohm, Melany Vanden Langenberg, Kate Malterer and Katie Gunderson each finished with two.

Schlobohm had 17 assists as the Eagles hit .073 for the match.

Melannie Tate registered a team-leading 17 digs.

Erin Green led UW-River Falls with 10 kills while Sami Kaminski and Gina DeRosa each finished with nine. Mackenzie Suda recorded 21 assists and Hayley Buchanan had 15 as the Falcons hit .319 overall.

Kelsey Scheele finished with a match-high 21 digs while Kaminski recorded 13.

UW-L returns to action Friday, Oct. 23 hosting Buena Vista (Iowa) at 3 p.m. and Luther (Iowa) at 7 p.m.
