UW-L Splits Two Matches at Wartburg Classic; Stankus Earns All-Tournament Honors

Waverly, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday afternoon at the Wartburg College Classic in Waverly. The Eagles fell 3-1 (15-25, 14-25, 25-17, 17-25) to Nebraska Wesleyan University before coming back to earn a 3-2 victory (15-25, 26-24, 20-25, 25-17, 15-10) over Wartburg.

UW-L is now 2-7 on the season.

The Eagles' Brianne Stankus was named to her second straight all-tournament team after recording 38 kills in Saturday's two matches. She was selected to the St. Mary's Classic All-Tournament last weekend.

Versus Nebraska Wesleyan, Stankus led UW-L with 14 kills and .393 hitting percentage. She had three hitting errors in 28 attempts. Caitlin Jahnke finished with six kills while Amanda Hardy and Kate Malterer each recorded five. UW-L hit .170 as a team. Liz Schlobohm led the team with 33 assists.

Melannie Tate had a team-high 20 digs while Kelsey Witt added 11.

In the win over Wartburg, Stankus had 24 kills and seven errors in 49 attempts for a .347 hitting percentage. She also had 10 digs and three blocks. Melany Vanden Langenberg also recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 17 digs. The Eagles hit .157 as a team with Schlobohm registering 44 assists.

Tate led the team with 28 digs while Witt had 12. UW-L finished with 8.0 team blocks, including five from Malterer.

UW-L opens up Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play Friday, Sept. 18 at UW-Superior beginning at 7 p.m.
