decade and more ago, pundits hailed
the advent of the "paperless" era - a future in which
the printed word would become obsolete. True, the electronic information
highway is here. But instead of replacing print communication,
the world of the web has served as simply one more tool in the
information age. Print materials continue to provide the backbone
of how we inform, promote and communicate.
That is certainly the case here at the University of Wisconsin-La
Crosse.
From course catalog to business card and special event poster
to Alumnus magazine, the university tells its story through
the media of ink and paper. It's a combination with staying power.
- This booklet represents a continuing effort to recognize
the importance of printed materials produced here at UW-La Crosse.
- It sets down an orderly body of policies and procedures to
ensure that our publications reflect the excellence of the university
itself.
- It operates on the premise that consistency of image, coordination
of effort, and a carefully laid out print communication plan
can lead to increased awareness of and support for the university.
- It establishes a visual identity program that creates an
official university logo and specifies official university emblems
and how they are to be used on different print materials.
- It answers questions about how to get a piece produced through
UW-L's Publications Office.
