The UW-L Athletic Trainers' Association By-Laws
BY-LAWS OF THE:
UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN - LA CROSSE ATHLETIC TRAINERS'
ASSOCIATION
(WRITTEN 8.12.2012)
Section A: Name
The name of this organization shall be known as the University
of Wisconsin - La Crosse Athletic Training Association
(UW-LATA).
Section B: Affiliation
UW-LATA is not affiliated with any National or State
organization. UW-LATA is affiliated with Iota Tau Alpha –Beta
Zeta chapter, an athletic training honors society.
Section C: Purpose
1.
To promote education,
involvement, and leadership within UW-L Athletic Training
Education Program (ATEP).
2.
To promote Athletic Training
on the UW-L campus.
3.
To provide social and
professional interaction with allied health professionals.
Section A: Eligibility
Membership shall be open to anyone who is in the ESS - Athletic
Training academic program, or is a candidate for the program.
Section B: Restrictions
1.
The members shall be UW-L
students.
2.
This organization is
prohibited from discriminating on the basis of age, race, color,
religion, handicap, national origin, or sex.
Section C: Dues
There shall be an annual due set each ear by the Executive
Board, and will be equal to all ATEP program members.
Observational student members will be charged less due to their
decreased program involvement.
ARTICLE III: OFFICERS
Section A: Officers
The officers shall consist of a president, two (2)
vice-presidents, a secretary, a treasurer, and one class
representative per ATEP academic class. They shall be
known as the Executive Board.
Section B: Eligibility
The Executive Board must be current UW-L students in the ESS -
Athletic Training program.
Section C: Election
The Executive Board shall be elected by simple majority of the
membership present when a
quorum exists in the second week of April. Election will
be by ballot vote. Nominations will be
taken the week prior to election.
Section D: Term
The officers shall serve for one year and their term shall
commence at the end of the academic
spring semester.
Section E: Vacancy
If a vacancy occurs in the Executive Board there shall be a
special election within two weeks of the vacancy.
Nominations will be taken from the floor and a general election
shall take place by ballot.
Section A: Duties
1.
President
a.
Shall preside at all regular and special meetings.
b.
Represent the UW-LATA organization at University meetings and
functions.
c.
Shall appoint committee chairpersons.
2.
Vice president
a.
Shall be present at all regular and special meetings.
b.
Shall act as presiding officer in absence of President.
c.
Shall conduct all elections and special elections.
d.
Shall issue notce of all UW-LATA meetings and functions.
e.
Shall be in charge of finding guest speakers for the
organization.
f.
Shall be in charge of coordinating the Spring Banquet.
3.
Secretary
a.
Shall be present at all meetings, special and regular.
b.
Record the minutes of all general and special meetings.
c.
Maintain a current roster of membership and manage MyOrgs.
4.
Treasurer
a.
Shall be present at all regular and special meetings.
b.
Receive all funds and pay on the order of the membership or
Executive Board.
c.
Keep an itemized account of all receipts and expenditures and
make a detailed report at all regular meetings.
d.
Make a yearly audit to the membership in April of each academic
year.
e.
Shall be in charge of purchasing gifts for speakers, and
miscellaneous items for the UW-LATA organization.
5.
Class Representative
a.
Shall be present at all regular and special meetings.
b.
Shall represent their class, convey opinions, and relay
information.
c.
Duties of each class representative:
i.
Senior: design and maintain ATR bulletin board and organize
social events.
ii.
Junior: coordinate Holiday Banquet and Senior Gifts.
iii.
Sophomore: coordinate Parents Weekend.
Section A: Eligibility
1.
The WATA representative must
be current UW-L student in the UWL-ATEP.
2.
Be NATA/WATA member for at
least one year.
3.
Have at least one full year of
education left within the ATEP.
4.
Be able to attend the Annual
WATA meeting.
Section B: Selection
The Executive Committee and current faculty shall select the
WATA representative
advisor after review of all applications. The position and
application due date will be announced at
a regular LATA meeting dependent on the WATA meeting date.
Section D: Term
The officers shall serve for one year, but can be renewed if the
student is still eligible.
Section E: Vacancy
If a vacancy occurs in the Executive Board there shall be a
special selection within two weeks of the vacancy.
ARTICLE VI: FACULTY ADVISOR
Section A: Selection
There shall be a faculty advisor, who will be selected by the
Executive Board. The nominated advisor must accept the offered
position.
Section B: Duties
1.
Advise and stimulate interest
of the membership in the UW-LATA.
2.
Provide guidance in the
development and implementation of programs and activities.
3.
Serve as liaison between the
University and the organization. Interpreting, if
necessary, University policies or philosophy.
4.
Attend all regular and special
meetings and to attend Executive Committee meetings.
Section A:
Responsibility
Management of the UW-LATA
shall be vested in this committee, and they are responsible to
the
entire membership to uphold the By-Laws.
Section B: Membership
This committee shall consist of the officers as listed in
Article III, and the faculty advisor as listed in Article VI.
Section C: Meetings
The Executive Committee shall meet prior to the first regular
meeting of the organization, and
whenever necessary throughout the year to plan the agenda for
the following meetings.
Section D: Quorum
A quorum shall consist of
2/3 members of the Executive Committee if possible.
Section A: Meetings
The Executive Board will call monthly regular meetings with
dates and times posted at least one
week in advance. These meetings shall be to conduct the
necessary business of the
organization and to have a presentation or guest speaker.
Section B: Special Meetings
1.
May be called by the Executive
Board.
2.
May be called by the President
at the request of any member.
Section C: Quorum
A quorum shall consist of 2/3 of the members in good standing.
Section D: Parliamentary Authority
Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised, shall govern the
organization in all cases to which they
are applicable, and in which they are not inconsistent with the
By-Laws.
Section A: Vote
These By-Laws may be amended by a 2/3 majority vote of the
members in good standing.
Section B: Notice
All members shall receive advance notice of the proposed
amendments in writing at least five days
prior to the meeting of the members.
