Tennis Team Earns Win at UW-River Falls

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, October 8, 2008

River Falls, Wis. - The UW-La Crosse women's tennis squad improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) with a 9-0 victory at UW-River Falls Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons fall to 7-7 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

In singles play, Kelly Kuether won at No. 1 over UW-River Falls' Kathryne Ostrowski (6-0, 6-0) while the Eagles' Carlie Bohrman defeated Cassie Wood at No. 2 singles (6-3, 1-6, 10-8). Katie McDonald beat Katie Lynn Anderson at No. 3 singles (6-1, 6-0) and Megan Fallon defeated Lindsay Gillman at No. 4 (6-2, 7-5).

Sarah Schoenwaelder defeated Brittany Bonine at No. 5 singles (6-3, 7-5) and the Eagles' Debbie Braun beat Mindy Rudiger at No. 6 (7-6, 7-3).

UW-L swept all three doubles matches. Bohrman/Schoenwaelder defeated Ostrowski/Rudiger at No. 1 (8-6), Braun/McDonald beat Anderson/Naomi Wolff at No. 2 (8-2) and Fallon/Kuether defeated Bonine/Wood at No. 3 (8-3).

UW-L returns to action Friday, October 10 at UW-Oshkosh at 4 p.m.

Volleyball Falls at Nationally-Ranked UW-Oshkosh

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, October 8, 2008

Oshkosh, Wis. – The UW-La Crosse volleyball squad fell 3-1 (15-25, 25-13, 23-25, 20-25) at UW-Oshkosh Wednesday night in Kolf Sports Center. The Eagles fall to 18-7 overall and 3-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). The Titans, ranked 11th in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-25 Poll, improve to 21-2 overall and 6-1 in the conference. UW-Oshkosh clinches a home match for the WIAC Tournament Quarterfinals scheduled for November 4.

Amber Schoonover led UW-L with 16 kills and 16 digs Wednesday night. She hit .273 for the match. Brianne Stankus added 12 kills and 12 kills while hitting .263. The Eagles hit .194 as a team. Liz Schlobohm recorded 35 assists and four aces for the Eagles. Two other players recorded double-digit digs as Elizabeth Carlisle finished with 13 and Melannie Tate 12.

Ashley Sullivan led UW-Oshkosh with 15 kills while Kelsey Mauer finished with 12. The Titans hit .235 as a team. Katie Reimer registered 24 assists and Katelyn Vara added 16. Christina Cohoon recorded 33 digs with Andrea Smith and Stephanie Magnuson each finishing with 10.

UW-L returns to action Wednesday, October 15 hosting UW-Platteville at 7 p.m.
