UW-L Wins Seven of Eight on Spring Break

La Crosse, Wis. – The UW-La Crosse baseball team went 7-1 on its spring break trip to Arizona last week and are now 7-2 overall on the year. The Eagles opened with seven straight wins in Arizona, defeating Western New England College (10-9), Augsburg College (11-2, 12-6), Concordia College-Moorhead, Minn. (8-4, 3-1) and SUNY-Brockport (10-4, 4-2). UW-L fell in its last game to Johns Hopkins (6-4).
UW-L hit .317 as a team with 62 runs scored, 19 doubles, five home runs and 55 RBI.
Joey Casper hit .438 (seven-of-16) in five games while Jay Fanta hit .407 (11-of-27) in eight contests. Other top hitters included Matt Trocke (.368), Sean Cory (.364), Travis Kerr (.350), Darren O’Donnell (.320), Storm Gram (.308), Tyler Peterson (.304) and Josh Weber (.300).
The Eagles compiled a 4.95 team earned run average in 60.0 innings pitched. Ross Benitz went 2-0 with a 2.77 earned run average on the trip while Steve Henes, Luke Zurbriggen, Bryant Rude, Levi Adank and Tim Larson all picked up a win. Henes and Zurbriggen each earned a save.
UW-L returns to action Tuesday, March 24 hosting St. Mary’s (Minn.) at 3 p.m. in the Eagles’ home-opener.
