UW-L Finishes .500 on Spring Trip

La Crosse, Wis. – The UW-La Crosse baseball team went 5-5 on its spring trip in Arizona last week and are now 7-5 on the season. The Eagles opened with a 12-11 victory over Montclair State (N.J.) March 14 before losing twice to Hamline University (Minn.) March 15 by scores of 7-4 and 14-10.

UW-L then swept St. John’s University (Minn.) March 17, 4-3 and 5-2 and earned a 23-5 victory over Concordia University (Wis.) March 18.

The Eagles fell 16-10 to Johns Hopkins University (Md.) March 20 and were swept by Concordia College (Minn.) March 21 by the scores of 11-3 and 7-6. UW-L finished its trip with a 7-4 victory over Marian College (Wis.) March 22.

Dusty Otto hit .577 (15-of-26) with nine runs scored, three home runs and eight RBI in eight games played in Arizona. Travis Kerr hit .440 (11-of-25) for UW-L with six runs scored and three doubles.

Storm Gram, the WIAC Position Player of the Week, hit .424 (14-of-33) in 10 games last week with 16 runs scored, six doubles, 15 RBi and four steals. Mike Schmidt hit .345 (10-of-29) for the week with seven run scored, a triple, three home runs and eight RBI.

The Eagles hit .333 as a team with eight home runs and 84 runs scored.

Greg Gibson was selected the WIAC Pitcher of the Week after going 2-0 with a 1.80 earned run average in Arizona. Luke Zurbriggen was 1-0 with a 3.72 ERA while Ross Benitz recorded one save. UW-L had a 8.76 team earned run average.

UW-L returns to action Saturday, March 29 at UW-Stevens Point to open WIAC play.
